Piercing Aftercare: Golden Rules to Prevent Infection

A new piercing is exciting — but the healing process requires consistent care and attention. Follow these guidelines to ensure your piercing heals beautifully.

Daily Cleaning Routine

Clean your piercing twice daily with sterile saline solution. Spray directly onto the piercing and allow to air dry. Never use alcohol, hydrogen peroxide or antibacterial soap — these damage healing tissue.

What to Avoid

  • Touching with unwashed hands
  • Swimming in sea, pool or jacuzzi during healing
  • Rotating or moving the jewellery unnecessarily
  • Sleeping on the piercing (use a travel pillow if ear piercing)

Signs of Infection

Some redness and swelling in the first few days is normal. However, if you notice excessive swelling, unusual green or yellow discharge, or fever, seek medical attention promptly.

Healing Times

  • Earlobes: 6-8 weeks
  • Nostril: 2-4 months
  • Cartilage: 6-12 months
  • Navel: 6-12 months
